University Of North Alabama To Host Dr. Stephen Mcnutt For Volcanic Conversation

FLORENCE, Ala.-The University of North Alabama will welcome Dr. Stephen McNutt to campus for a lecture Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m., in the Science and Engineering Building.

McNutt, whose lecture is titled Using Seismology to Find Where the Magma is and How it Gets to the Surface, is currently a professor and head of the Seismology Laboratory in the School of Geosciences at the University of South Florida.

McNutt's research focus is in the field of volcano geophysics, including seismology, infrasound and lightning. McNutt served as the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI)'s Secretary General, from 1999-2007.He earned his Ph.D. in Volcanology at Columbia University in 1985.

The lecture is being sponsored by the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences.
